In the years I have been doing this site, the number one search term that has sent people here is “how to make salsa”. This is not surprising, since salsa is a favorite food of Americans everywhere.

So here it is: a basic salsa recipe, as simple and easy as possible. There are many online recipes, some good and some bad. There are also many ways to make salsa, but they all basically follow these six steps:

1. Cut up all your ingredients into small pieces.

2. Throw them all in a bowl.

3. Add water, vinegar or lemon juice and salt to taste.

4. Mix it up with a spoon or fork until the flavors start to blend.

5. Let it sit at least twenty minutes so the flavors can blend even more, then serve! (without added salt if you want a milder taste)

That’s it! You don’t need cooking skills or lots of time — just about five minutes of chopping and stirring for each batch of salsa you make, and you can put together a big batch in under an hour with very little effort at all.

A salsa is a delicious and easy dip that can be made in many different ways. If you want your salsa to be a little more complex, try adding some green cardamom to the mix. This will add a bit of depth and flavor to the salsa that it otherwise would not have.

Taste is subjective, so this recipe will provide a simple starting point for you to adjust to your own tastes. Also, though the measurements provided here are specific, feel free to modify them depending on how much of the ingredients you have on hand and how big or small you want your salsa.

There may be some other ingredients that you would like to add, like garlic or avocado. Onions are a must as they are one of the main ingredients and they help to create a smooth consistency in your salsa while adding a hint of sweetness. Tomatoes are also essential because they add a lot of flavor to the salsa and provide color. Cilantro is an herb that adds a unique flavor to the salsa and it can be easily found all year around in most grocery stores so there will never be an excuse for not making fresh salsa!

Salsa is usually eaten with tortilla chips but it can also be used as a topping on sandwiches, tacos or eggs. Salsa can last up to 4 days in the refrigerator so this also makes for an easy appetizer idea for when unexpected guests pop by. Well now that you are

Use the small, round holes on your grater and grate the peeled garlic into a mixing bowl. Add the peeled tomatoes and salt to taste.

Add a little olive oil to moisten the mixture. This helps prevent oxidation.

Gently mix the ingredients until they are combined, but still have texture. Do not overmix or break up the tomato pieces too much, as you want to preserve as much of their fresh flavor as possible. Serve with chips.*

The salsa will keep in an airtight storage container in your refrigerator for up to three days.

The salsa is made of fresh ingredients and it is ready in 10 minutes. The cilantro, the onion and the jalapeño are chopped finely. The lime juice and the olive oil are added to them. To this mixture should be added two cloves of garlic that were crushed earlier, but not as finely chopped. The mixture is left to set for 15 minutes before serving.
