Weihnachtspizza, a popular German Christmas delicacy, is a pizza topped with marzipan and spicy sausage. It is not as strange as it may sound. In Germany, it is traditional to eat sweet potato (Kartoffel) or pumpkin (Kürbis) soup during the Advent period. It makes sense then to follow up with something sweet. Marzipan and sweet sausage are both typical German Christmas sweets.

The recipe for Weihnachtspizza is very simple: the crust of the pizza should be made from a thin layer of dough that has been spread out with a rolling pin as thin as possible and baked in a very hot oven until crunchy; some melted butter and sugar are sprinkled over this crust before adding the toppings. The toppings are either sweet potato or pumpkin soup (depending on which one you like better), chopped onion, marzipan, sweet sausage and sugar.

The whole thing is then baked in an oven until the marzipan has melted and everything else has heated through.”

The pizza is eaten at night, after everyone has opened their presents. Children sit around the table, eagerly waiting for their slice of pizza with lots of cheese. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. And one thing that adds to the magic is this delicious Christmas pizza. If you would like to try it, here is a recipe:

Christmas pizza is made with a yeast dough, which you can easily prepare in advance. The next day you cover it in cheese and paprika, put it in the oven and after about 45 minutes you are ready to enjoy the yummiest Christmas pizza ever! So let’s start!

1) Yeast dough:

– Mix 400g flour, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar and 3/4 cup lukewarm water (not hot!) into a dough.

2) Transfer it to a floured table and knead it for 5 minutes. Place it in a bowl, cover with plastic foil and let rise at room temperature until it has doubled in size (about 2 hours).

3) Take out the risen dough form the bowl, punch out all the air and cut off a piece of dough (for a 25cm diameter pizza pan). Shape your piece of dough into a flattened round disk (like for pizza bases).

Well, why not? It’s a great idea. It is like a sandwich only you can eat it with your hands. And it is just as easy to prepare as a sandwich.

Lets begin by cutting the bread into 12 slices and then toast the bread in an electric toaster until it is golden brown. Now take 4-6 slices of bread, spread some sweet paprika on them and place them back in the toaster until they are golden brown again. (Don’t forget to brush them with butter first, you need to do that or they will just get dry)

After that take some ham, salami, sausage and turkey and cut them into small pieces. (You can also use other meat but I think these four kinds taste the best together) Next put some cheese on top of the bread and cut up some gherkins and put them on top as well. After all is done you can start assembling your pizza. Take one slice of bread put some meat on top of it and put another slice of bread on top of it. You will now have two layers of meat covered with cheese and two layers of bread covered with paprika. Just repeat this till you have no more ingredients left and all your pizza slices

How to make sweet paprika:

Sweet paprika is a spice made from dried red peppers. As far as sweet paprika goes, the Hungarians claim to have invented it in the middle ages and are, therefore, very proud of it. The Hungarians decided to dry their peppers over open fires which gave them a smoky flavor. They then ground the peppers into a fine powder and added large amounts of sugar to it. This was how they were able to preserve it for long periods of time.

The Germans found the sweet paprika too sweet for their tastes, so they introduced some more ingredients into the mix. This made it less sweet and more spicy. These days there are several varieties on the market and you can easily get your hands on both types of sweet paprika.

I love Christmas. I love the holidays and the snow and the decorations and the presents. I’m a sucker for it all. But there is one thing about Christmas that I’ve never been able to get behind, and that’s the Christmas tree.

I blame my parents for this. They had this little artificial tree about four feet high with white lights that blinked on and off in an annoying pattern, with red balls and big pink birds on it. It was just so … tacky. I mean, at least make it look real!

When I was young, my dad would take me down to the basement at night to see it, and I’d come back upstairs crying furiously because they wouldn’t let me have a real one. My mom said she loved her little fake tree and she wasn’t going to listen to me whine about it.

I was always suspicious of my mom when it came to Christmas trees, because she always wanted an angel on top of hers. Angels are fine in their place, but seriously? On top of your Christmas tree?
