The base for homemade fajita seasoning is made up of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, black pepper and oregano. This is then built upon with a number of optional extras that you can add depending on your personal tastes.

This includes chili powder which adds some heat to the fajita seasoning and cayenne pepper which adds even more heat but also brings some color.

Another option is to add a little brown sugar as it will help balance out the saltiness and acidity of the tomatoes while adding some sweetness that works well with bell peppers.

Finally, if you want an extra smoky flavor then you should add in some ground chipotle pepper or smoked paprika.

Makes about 1/4 cup — enough for about 3 pounds of meat

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin

3/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

3/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika (hot smoked or sweet)

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano (Mexican preferred)

Most of the time, you can find homemade fajita seasoning in the Mexican food aisle at your local grocery store. But why pay for something you can make yourself? Making homemade spices is one of the easiest things you can do to spruce up your life.

It’s not very expensive, either. For less than fifteen dollars, you can buy all of the ingredients and make enough fajita seasoning to last for months. And it’s so easy that even someone with no experience cooking at home can whip up a batch.

Here’s how it’s done:

1. Mix together 1 tablespoon each salt and pepper in a small bowl or measuring cup.

2. Add 2 teaspoons of cumin and chili powder and stir until well combined.

3. Add 1 teaspoon paprika, garlic powder, onion powder or dried onion flakes (optional), cayenne pepper (if desired) and mix well again until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed together before using as desired in recipes calling for fajita seasonings!

This is the fajita seasoning recipe I use when I make fajitas, burritos or tacos. I love it because it has a great flavor and you can control the amount of heat by adjusting the amount of cayenne pepper you add to it.

1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (start with less, I like 1/4 tsp)

It’s finally time to replace that old container of fajita seasoning that’s been sitting in your spice cabinet (or pantry, or fridge, or wherever you keep spices) since who knows when — thankfully.

I say “thankfully” because this homemade fajita seasoning is so much better than any store-bought blend! It’s zesty and flavorful without being too spicy, and it has just the right amount of salt. Best of all, it’s made with pantry staples you likely have on hand already.

If you’re new to making your own spice blends, I think this is a great recipe to start with. It involves no special equipment, it takes about 5 minutes to make, and the result is infinitely superior to anything you might buy at the store. You can use it right away, or make a big batch and store it for future fajitas (or any other Mexican dish you’d like to add a little extra flavor to).

I have to admit, when I was trying to come up with a name for this recipe, I was stumped. You see, we don’t always eat all of our chicken in tacos or as fajitas (although we do most of the time). So what is the best way to describe this homemade fajita seasoning?

Since there has been some confusion over the name, I just want to clarify that this is not a taco seasoning recipe nor is it limited just to use on beef. This can be used on any meat, chicken or fish and works great as a marinade.
