.Paprika is a spice made from grinding dried peppers. It comes in many varieties, but the most popular kind in America is sweet paprika, which is usually made from red peppers. Smoked paprika, also called pimenton, is made from drying red peppers over a fire and then grinding them into powder. It has a slightly smoky taste, but it’s not spicy like chipotle or other kinds of hot chili powder.

Taste:

Compared to regular paprika, smoked paprika has a milder flavor and a darker color. You can add a little bit of smoked paprika to pretty much any dish that you add regular paprika to; it’s a good substitute if you don’t want your dish to be too spicy.

Smoked paprika goes especially well with pork and chicken dishes that are served with potatoes — such as pork chops and chicken breast — because the smokey taste pairs nicely with the potatoes’ earthiness. Also, smoked paprika tastes great sprinkled over popcorn!

There are many ways you can use smoked paprika in your cooking. There’s the popular and well-known Spanish dish called paella, then there’s romesco sauce which is a Spanish sauce, and there is also a sprinkling that goes on potatoes and even in burgers. So here are just 3 ideas of how you can use smoked paprika.

I have been using smoked paprika for some time now, and have found it to be a very versatile spice. I love its deep red colour, the way it can bring out the smoky flavour in so many dishes and that it is not too expensive. It is the perfect spice in meat dishes, but also goes well with vegetables and fish.

How is it prepared?

Smoked paprika is a condiment which is made by drying out the red peppers and then smoking them over a wood fire. Thus, it has a strong smoky flavour. It is often used in Spanish and Portuguese cuisines. The taste of smoked paprika is much stronger than that of regular paprika, so you need to use less of it.

Smoked paprika can be found in the spice section of most supermarkets or in specialty stores or shops which sell spices. It can also be purchased online or through mail order catalogues.

When you buy smoked paprika, look at the colour of the powder. It should be an orange-red colour with no grey bits mixed in. Smoked paprika should not leave a bitter taste in your mouth like some other varieties do.
