How To Make Homemade Chicken Fajita Seasoning

You don’t need to spend your hard-earned cash on a seasoning packet when you can make your own homemade chicken fajita seasoning. It’s simple, straightforward and takes less than five minutes to pull together. Not only does it taste great, but you’ll also hang onto all those nutrients that are lost when store-bought seasonings sit on the shelves for months at a time. This is an easy recipe to customize with your favorite ingredients!

To make homemade chicken fajita seasoning, start by measuring out each of the spices into a small bowl or jar. If you’re making a large batch, be sure to use a large bowl to mix everything together. When adding the spices to the bowl, gently shake them over the rim so they don’t get stuck in corners and aren’t completely buried by the other spices.

Next, mix everything together well so it’s evenly distributed throughout (I like to use my hands for this…but if you have better ideas, please let me know). This is especially important if you’re using fresh garlic or onion because it will clump and separate from the rest of the ingredients if not thoroughly incorporated. Once everything has been mixed and is evenly distributed, store in an airtight container until ready for use!

You will need:

your favorite chicken breast

one lime, juiced

salt, pepper

oregano, paprika

chili powder

garlic powder or granulated garlic

cumin

chili flakes (optional)

For seasoning: Mix together chili powder, cumin, chili flakes (optional), garlic powder or granulated garlic and paprika in a small bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. I use about 1/3 cup of this spice mix in this recipe. The rest can be stored in a cool dry place up to 4 months.

To cook: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chicken breasts cut into strips or chunks. Cook until cooked through and no longer pink inside. Remove from heat. Squeeze lime juice over meat while still hot, stir well to coat meat with juice and spices evenly. Add more salt and pepper if needed at this point as well as additional spices if you like things spicier.

This recipe is a simple one and only takes a few minutes to make. It is also a very inexpensive way to make your own fajita seasoning.

Often I look at the ingredients on store bought seasonings and see things I just do not want to eat or feed to my family. The beauty of making your own is that you can control how much salt, sugar and other ingredients are in it.

You can use this seasoning for chicken, beef, shrimp or vegetables. It is also great sprinkled on French fries or baked potatoes.
