What is Apple Pie Spice?
Apple pie spice is a mixture of cinnamon and other spices like nutmeg, cardamom, ginger and allspice. It’s very similar to pumpkin pie spice with the only difference being that allspice is used in apple pie spice instead of cloves. Both these mixtures have a warm flavor and smell like fall!

What is in Apple Pie Spice?
Apple pie spice is a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and sometimes ginger or cloves. It’s an incredibly aromatic blend that adds so much warmth and flavor to your baked goods.
I like using a combination of whole spices as opposed to ground because the aroma and flavor is so much more intense. Plus I love the way they look sprinkled on top of anything – it’s like edible confetti!
It’s not fall without a big slice of apple pie. But if you’re like me and don’t have the time or patience to make a whole pie, you can use this spice mix on almost anything.
Apple Pie Spice will really add that punch of flavor to your baking. You can use it in place of pumpkin pie spice too if you want to give your pumpkin bread or muffins some extra fall flavor. This is also great in oatmeal, coffee drinks, and even sprinkled over ice cream.

My bread and butter is coming up with unique recipes on my blog, and the idea for a homemade apple pie spice mix just came to me one day when I was making a recipe for mini apple pies.
The recipe called for spices that you would normally find in an apple pie (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice) and I thought – why not combine them all into one blend? After all, they are often used together in sweet recipes like snickerdoodle cookies or chai tea.
I made the spice blend, used it in the recipe (which turned out amazing by the way) and then decided to make it again and use it in other recipes. It can be used in any recipe calling for those four spices. Think oatmeal, smoothies or even yogurt!
