Desserts are the best part of any meal. While main dishes may be eaten out of necessity, desserts are generally enjoyed for pleasure. Some cultures make desserts a regular part of meals while others reserve them for special occassions. Desserts can range from simple fruits to elaborate cakes. Some desserts are enjoyed hot while others are served cold. Many cultures have desserts specific to their region or country.

All kinds of ingredients can be used to make desserts such as fresh fruit and nuts, grains, chocolate, brownies, ice cream, syrups, jams and even meats like pumpkin pie. You’ll find recipes here for a wide variety of desserts including classics like chocolate chip cookies and pineapple upside down cake along with international favorites like baklava and tres leches cake (a sponge cake soaked in three milks). A visit to this site will undoubtedly give you lots of new dessert ideas for your next party or special meal!

One of the first dishes to be enjoyed and shared with others was dessert. The recipes for desserts in ancient civilizations varied depending on the ingredients and the techniques available to people. And because desserts were such a delight to ancient civilizations, they were also an important part of religious and ceremonial events.

Tasty and nutritious, desserts have been enjoyed all over the world for thousands of years. They have been found in almost every civilization since time began. As time passed, the recipes for these desserts changed and evolved according to cultural influences that introduced new ingredients or cooking techniques into a particular region. From a simple fruit plate to a rich chocolate cake, there are many kinds of desserts with different flavors, textures, and fillings. Some are served warm while others are chilled.

Dessert is a course that comes at the end of a meal. The word “dessert” comes from the French desservir, meaning “to clear the table.”

The term dessert originated in France. In English, both the course and the word were borrowed from French at around the same time. Many languages retain the word for dessert—and the corresponding meaning—from a period long after they have adopted the course itself.

Tasty treats are not new. For example, in many European countries, particularly Italy, Greece, Germany, and Russia it is traditional to eat various kinds of sweet foods on Easter Sunday and Lent. In Eastern Europe and Russia, these special sweets were made out of honey and flavored with nuts like almonds or walnuts or fruits like apples or lemons. The tradition of eating something sweet before going to mass on Sunday is as old as Easter itself.

Other countries also have their own versions of traditional desserts that are served around a holiday or during a certain season of the year. For example, in Mexico on Christmas Eve families gather together to drink hot chocolate and eat Rosca de Reyes (a ring-shaped cake made with flour, lard, sugar and spices) for good luck in the coming year.*
